Understanding Long Term Care..it's not just for getting older anymore

Long Term Care...who wants to think about it when you are young, right?

I know that when we think about it we think we are signing our destiny for needing it....don't do a Last Will & Testament because it means you will need it.  Don't think about Long-Term Care Insurance because if you do, you will need it.

We don't have homeowners insurance because we expect to have a fire, we have in "just in case" and if that "just in case" happens we cannot afford to pay to replace our home and the contents.

If you think you "don't need it" or don't need to "think about it" just yet.....read these interesting facts:

According to the National Clearing House for LTCI Information, 2008, 40% of people receiving long-term care are working-age adults between the ages of 18-64!!!!  How old are you?

Prudential Research Report: Long Term Care Cost Study, 2010, states:  74% of consumers ages 55-65 polled for a survey said they are concerned about needing some kind of long-term care.

Baby Boomers....changed the world!  they will also significantly impact the potential demand for long-term care services over the next two decades!!  Prudential Financial: Over the next 20 years the number of Americans age 65 and older will more than DOUBLE to 71 MILLION which will comprise 20% of the U.S. Population!!!

Are you a woman?  Married to one?  Have a mother?  Did you know that women will need longer care because they typically live longer (National Clearinghouse for Long-Term Care Information, 2008).

Nationally, home health care costs have grown by 13% since 2008!  The annual cost for a private room in a nursing home exceeds $90,000 in 2010 (Prudential Research Report:  Long Term Care Cost Study, 2010.

Sorry we don't have this policy

Client:  Jim´s barn burned down. Julie, his wife, called the insurance company and said, "We had that barn insured for fifty thousand and I want my money."

Cheryl:  "Whoa there, just a minute, Julie, it doesn´t work like that. We will assess the value of the building and provide you with a new one of comparable worth."

Julie, after a pause, said, "Well, in that case, I´d like to cancel the policy on my husband."
